TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with internal and external team members. Must be able to make oral/visual presentations to large and small groups in a variety of environments. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and carry materials, various equipment up to 40 lbs. traversing uneven ground, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching above head, etc. Specialized protective and safety equipment may be required for some projects. Requires the ability to use an automobile to travel to various worksites around the City and out-of-town for meetings and conferences.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment and on various work sites including exposure to dust, fumes, grease, odors, noise heat and all types of weather conditions. Work involves contact with staff and the public. Work may require some evening and weekend.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Business or Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field and four (4) years’ experience relating to occupational safety or a closely related field; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Experience in conducting inspections, investigations, TOSHA Safety and Health Law, and course work or training in OSHA strongly preferred. Working experience demonstrating customer service orientation and working effectively as part of a team required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. 40-hour HAZWOPR certification preferred.

 

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of  Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
