TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with management, staff members, and the general public. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone. Requires the ability to lift and carry objects such training supplies weighing up to 20 lbs. Requires the ability to operate an automobile to travel to various locations throughout the City.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office and training/classroom environment. Some evening and weekend shifts may be required. Travel to various locations throughout the City is required.
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Education or a related field and three (3) years of professional training, and/or public speaking experience; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have working experience of software programs including Microsoft Office applications. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment. Related Master's Degree strongly preferred. Experience in staff management, training, and educational development as a program leader/director preferred.


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
