TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to lift and carry packages weighing up to 50 pounds and reaching above head to place mail into bins. Requires traversing through buildings and parking lots, while lifting and carrying packages for long periods of time. Must be able to operate a cube truck and general office equipment such as a telephone, computer terminal, or fax machine.
 
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Operates a City cube truck for long periods of time to travel throughout the city to deliver mail. Will be exposed to changing weather conditions and temperatures.
High school graduate or equivalent and two (2) years of experience performing mail delivery and sorting duties including specific experience operating such as a computer terminal; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Knowledge of dock equipment, pallet jacks, etc. preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment.


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
