TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to inspect and observe solid waste collection, processing, disposal and recycling activities including traversing throughout various property grounds.   Requires the ability to operate general office equipment, such as a computer, copier, and telephone. Must be able to travel to attend various local, in-state or out of state meetings or functions. Involves contact with employees at all levels and various government agency officials.  . 
 
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in an office environment.  Frequent travels throughout the city to inspect and observe work sites as needed.  Must be able to interact diplomatically with citizens and businesses regarding solid waste issues and problem resolution. May be exposed to noise, fumes, odors, and all types of weather conditions while inspecting or visiting worksites and/or facility locations.  Some evening, weekend, or holiday work may be required. 
 
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field and four (4) years of solid waste management experience in collection of debris with (2) of the four (4) years in a supervisory capacity; or high school graduate with eight (8) years' experience in the collection of debris with two (2) years in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Must possess and maintain a valid driver license as a condition of continued employment.  Working experience in communicating personnel policies and labor contract memorandums preferred.

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
