TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work involves exposure to inclement weather, dense or fast moving traffic; continued interaction with the general public involving traffic crashes and incidents. Police Service Technicians (PST) are not permitted to respond to crime scene calls or requests for assistance involving possible use of weapons or physical force. PSTs do not have arrest authority and are not armed.
Must be eighteen (18) years of age and have completed a high school education or its equivalency. Must meet visual and medical standards. Must be a United States citizen. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment. Must successfully complete a written battery of tests.
The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
