Brick Mason (PW/Drain Mnt)
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing. Requires ability to operate various types of equipment, vehicles, and tools such as hand tools, saws, drills, rotary hammer, power tools, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, etc. Must be able to communicate on two-way mobile radio and to provide detailed description of work performed to management and co-workers, including during high volumes of traffic noise. Drive trucks to and from various work sites throughout City. If assigned to Public Works Drain Maintenance, must be able to enter confined spaces such as manholes, catch basins, culverts, and other drainage related structures and have the ability to lift with assistance, manhole covers, inlet grates, rims, tools, and materials, which can weigh up to 150 lbs. If assigned to General Services requires the ability to assist in lifting equipment and tools weighing approximately 100 lbs.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to insects, weeds, poisonous plants, bacteria, insecticides, pesticides, flooded areas, traffic, noise, heat and all types of weather conditions. May require some contact with the general public. Must work in inclement weather as necessary. May be exposed to dust when inside of buildings.
Minimum of three (3) years' experience as journeyman brick mason with experience in maintenance and construction brick laying; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. If assigned to General Services must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment. If assigned to Public Works must possess and maintain a Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver's License and comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment. Working experience reading and working from plans, blueprints, and grade stakes strongly preferred.
The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
