ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Works under the direction of the Broadcast Manager to schedule and coordinate radio programming, daily weather forecasts, library public service and promotional announcements for WYPL's radio program, Eye on Vision. Produces, mixes, directs, edits, writes, promotes, and hosts Eye on Vision. Researches and recommends Eye on Vision show topics for approval. Researches, selects, interviews, and schedules guests for Eye on Vision. Educates guests of Eye on Vision's mission. Prepares and executes production for all phases of on-air recordings with various program recording equipment, including multi-channel on-air consoles, digital audio tape players and recorders, minidisk players and recorders, cartridge-based compact disc players, and multi-bus recording mixers. Assists with working with WYPL affiliated radio National Public Radio (NPR) consortiums to promote, market, and distribute compact disks of WYPL aired radio programs. Records, saves, and plays Memphis music programs by mixing, editing, and digitizing Memphis music into WYPL's extensive library. Employs proper coding and ID3 tags for cataloging. Appends WireReady radiomaster control automation computer system's traffic program with a daily playlist of audio files. Assists with the operation of the broadcast (television) master control automation systems' traffic entry program. Actively participates in preparing and promoting a vision program through internet access by collaborating and providing information for print and marketing. Maintains records of daily programs aired, as needed. Records library's on hold messages. Schedules, coordinates, and trains volunteers and staff assistants to host Memphis music radio program and Eye on Vision program. Writes and provides program voiceover scripts to volunteers to record the Eye on Vision and Memphis music programs and promotions.
 
OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly, both, verbally and in writing.  Must be able to operate basic office equipment, such as computer programs. Must be able to operate various broadcast production and recording equipment.
 
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Primarily works in a library environment. Work schedule may include nights and weekends. 
 



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Primarily works in a library environment. Work schedule may include nights and weekends. 
 
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Broadcast & Electronic Media, or related field and two (2) years' experience in broadcasting or media/public relations; or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience which enables one to perform the essential duties of the job. Knowledge of vision impairment, music digitization, and Memphis music preferred. Experience using Microsoft software preferred. 


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
