Works under the direction of the Agency Manager, or other designated personnel in managing the circulation functions of a branch library. Supervises agency clerical staff through participation in all employee processes, including interviews, conferences, performance reviews and work schedules. Manages all clerical and circulation functions. Interprets and communicates circulation policies to customers and staff. Serves as a working supervisor performing all circulation and page functions as needed. Performs training on a system-wide and regional level as directed. Coaches staff to reach full competency in performance of circulation and related duties. Creates and prepares a variety of correspondence, memoranda and reports by utilizing various computer applications. Interacts and communicates verbally and in writing with management and other staff members on a variety of issues and concerns. Assists others with activities necessary to support various agency services.

High school diploma required and six (6) years’ experience performing administrative customer service functions within a public-setting, including some supervisory experience. Minimum of two years of college and equivalent experience relevant to the position preferred. Minimum of one year supervisory experience preferred. Public library experience preferred.


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
