TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly, both, verbally and in writing.  Must be able to operate computer and all basic office equipment. Requires stooping, bending, stretching, pushing cart loads of library reference materials up to 40 lbs and lifting up to 25 lbs of library reference materials.
 
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in a library office environment. Requires occasional travel to various library locations throughout Memphis and Shelby County to attend meetings, offer trainings, cover reference desk, and assess the collection for cataloging purposes. May travel out of town for professional conferences, trainings, and other meetings, as needed.
 
Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school and two (2) years of work experience in reference materials and data collections within a library environment or a related bachelor's degree and three (3) years of work experience in reference materials and data collections within a library environment; or any combination of related training and experience which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) and budget preparations preferred.


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
