TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Requires the ability to use equipment such as message center multi-line telephone, personal computer, typewriter, fax machine, and copier. Requires the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with management, staff and the general public.  Requires the ability to lift and carry boxes of files weighing up to 20 lbs.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in an office environment and involves contact with executives, staff, and the general public.  

Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and three (3) years of increasingly responsible clerical experience including operating a personal computer and utilizing various general office software; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Must be fluently bilingual in oral and written English and Spanish.  Must possess or obtain Federal Court Interpreter Certification or equivalent within three (3) years and maintain certification as a condition of continued employment. 
Previous experience in English/Spanish oral interpretation in simultaneous and consecutive modes and sight translation of English/Spanish documents.  Demonstrated proficiency in proper regional and idiomatic usage of the Spanish language.  Knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures used while interpreting in consecutive and simultaneous modes.  Knowledge of English and Spanish court terminology.  Knowledge of theory, methods, techniques, ethics, and standards of court interpreting.  Ability to maintain clear and concise documentation of daily requests and responses.  Ability to work cooperatively with employees, defendants, and the public.  Ability to learn job-related materials primarily through oral instructions and observation.

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
