TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to lift/move items weighing up to 50 pounds from one location to another. Must be able to use a multiline phone, computer, and other office equipment. Requires the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with staff and various levels of City employees.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office setting and is sedentary. May perform work in various climates. Work involves time-related pressures and viewing of incident reports of a critical nature, changing priorities, frequent interruptions, and a high volume of work. Rotating shifts, rotating (RDOs) regular days off, and weekend work may be required. On-call work outside of business hours may be required.


Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Urban Studies, Social Science or related field from an accredited four year college or university, and one (1) year experience as a crime analyst, research analyst in a criminal justice agency or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess working knowledge of computer data systems, statistical analysis such as SPSS, and mapping software programs such as ArcGIS. Must be able to obtain a Tennessee Information Enforcement System (TIES) certification within twelve (12) months of hire and maintain as a condition of continued employment. Experience working in a police agency preferred. May be required to complete a battery of tests as deemed appropriate by Human Resources to evaluate competencies in performing job duties.


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
