Design Engineer Senior
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general direction of assigned supervisor in the assigned engineering service center. Plans, designs and supervises the completion of a variety of engineering and major projects requiring the use of advanced techniques and modification of engineering practices, procedures and materials relating to the assigned service center. Supervises engineers, technicians, and consultants on assigned work, reviews work, estimates personnel need, and schedules work to meet completion date. Designs and reviews plans for CIP projects to ensure conformance with standard engineering practices, rules, and regulations of governing agencies. Provides technical advice and assistance to plans review engineers and construction inspectors to ensure consistency and conformance to city standards. Supervises and coordinates consultant work, determines proposal and cost estimates, negotiates fees, and defines scope of projects. Monitors engineering work to ensure adherence to project guidelines. Evaluates current practices and researches new developments in materials and construction methods to recommend changes in procedures, design or material where necessary. Makes site visits for inspections and attends meetings throughout the city by driving to various locations. Represents the City in meetings to answer important questions, resolve concerns, and plan and coordinate work. Performs detailed engineering computation. Inspects project sites to monitor progress, ensure conformance to plans and specifications, and recommend repair and replacement of structures. Uses computer-assisted engineering, design software, and equipment to prepare documents.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with management, staff, consultants, developers, and the public. Requires the ability to conduct site visits by driving and traversing uneven ground on foot. Requires the ability to operate telephone, computer, and automobile.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an office environment with some required outdoor work to visit construction sites. Must travel throughout city to attend meetings and conduct site visits. May be exposed to changing weather conditions, fumes, and odors when performing outside duties and functions.

Annual: $48,868.30 - $74,776.00
Payperiod: $1,879.55 - $2,876.00
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or currently in school with the ability to obtain degree within six (6) months as a condition of continued employment. Must possess a certification as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or have the ability to obtain certification within twelve (12) months of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.
Gen.15 - Engineering Designer AA (054ED)
Annual: $54,733.38 - $84,281.60
Payperiod: $2,105.13 - $3,241.60
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and two (2) years of professional civil engineering experience and possession of an Engineering - In - Training Certificate (EIT); or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Experience with AutoCAD, TerraModel software, and GIS preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and four (4) years’ experience in civil engineering design with emphasis in an engineering field appropriate to work assignment with at least two (2) of those years in a supervisory/lead capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. License to practice engineering in the State of Tennessee or a state that has reciprocity with Tennessee. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.

Annual: $78,447.98 - $109,827.12
Payperiod: $3,017.23 - $4,224.12
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and seven (7) years of progressively more responsible experience which was primarily involved in general civil engineering with at least four (4) of those years in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Preferred experience may include, but not be limited to the following areas: Roadway Design, Drainage Design, Structural Design and Analysis, Traffic Engineering, Sewer System Design, and Land Development. Work experience may vary based on assigned service center needs. License to practice engineering in the State of Tennessee or demonstrated ability to obtain within six (6) months required and maintain as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment.
