Engineering Aide
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires the ability to use various hand tools and devices such as, level and stadia rods, steel measuring tape, surveyor's chain, hammer, hatchet, ax, bush blade, and chain saw. Requires traversing long distances sometimes over uneven land, across ditches, river swamp land, and wooded areas. Requires ability to crawl into manholes. Requires ability to operate automobile.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions and dust. May be exposed to traffic, insects, weeds, and poisonous plants. Requires frequent travel to various worksites throughout the city.
Graduation from high school and six (6) months experience in surveying preferred; or any combination of training and experience which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee Driver's License as a condition of continued employment.
The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
