TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires the ability to operate assigned equipment including dump truck, hand tools, power tools, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, and heavy construction tools including chain saw. Requires the ability to perform heavy manual work which will involve lifting manhole covers, inlet grates and rims, tools, concrete bags and materials, which can weigh up to 50 lbs. or up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Must be able to traverse various surfaces sometimes across ditches, climbing and crouching.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of the work is performed in an outdoor environment. May be exposed to insects, weeds, poisonous plants, bacteria, insecticides, pesticides, flooded areas, traffic, noise, heat and all types of weather conditions. May require some contact with the general public. Work may involve working inside culverts.

Ability to read, write and understand written and verbal instructions. Working experience driving tandem axle equipment required. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver's License and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment. Knowledge of geographic area of Memphis preferred.

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
