Fire Investigator Chief
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of fourteen (14) years of progressively responsible experience in a Fire/Police agency in a commissioned law enforcement capacity. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.

Must possess/obtain State of Tennessee Peace Officer Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) certification (which includes in part: background/physical psychological examination and weapons certification) before the end of twelve (12) months of employment/appointment and maintain same as a condition of continued employment as Chief Fire Investigator.

Possession of certification for CPR by a certified agency recognized by the Memphis Fire Department.

Must demonstrate clear understanding of rules of evidence relative to collection, handling, storage, and transfer of evidence material; and a clear understanding of search and seizure laws.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (includes Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess or obtain Memphis Fire Department Professional Development Program Certificate within six (6) months of employment in this position/rank as a condition of continued employment in this position/rank.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Fire Science, Business Management, or other closely related field; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.

Two (2) of the fourteen (14) years in a Fire/Police agency shall have been in a mid to upper/senior management level [at least Battalion Chief Level or equivalent] with responsibility for management and/or administration of the unit/agency.

Demonstrated leadership and management abilities in related jobs, positions, or employment history and professional communication skills.

Thorough understanding of and working familiarity with the use of law enforcement (e.g. NCIC, TIES, NIBRS, TIBRS, etc.) and fire incident (NFIRS) databases.

Extensive background in the management of Police Investigations.
