TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDSMust be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with management and staff members at all levels. Must have understanding of the operation of various types of heavy equipment including street sweeper, backhoes, and loaders. Must be able to reach overhead and lift and carry objects and related equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. for long distances. Must be able to stoop, bend, and traverse uneven surfaces such as across ditches and riverbanks. Must be able to operate an automobile to inspect work areas.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in an office environment as well as outside with exposure to various weather conditions to inspect work activities and to respond to problem situations and emergencies. Must be able to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.  Must be able to be on-call twenty four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week for emergency responses.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High School graduate or equivalent and seven (7) years' experience in Public Works Maintenance, Heavy Construction, or a closely related area with at least one (1) of the seven (7) years in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver License and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as condition of continued employment.
 

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of  Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
