Human Resources Manager
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the use of office equipment such as personal computer, calculator, telephone, and copier. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to attend meetings and lead conflict resolution sessions.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an office environment except during on-site visits to various work environments. Requires contact with employees at all levels, labor organizations and various outside agencies. May be required to work some weekends and long hours. Frequent travels throughout the city to as needed to attend meetings and programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors’ degree in Human Resources Management, Business or Public Administration or a related field and nine (9) years of professional experience in Human Resources and EEO to include grievance handling, complaint investigations and statement preparation; with seven (7) of the nine (9) years in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. Working experience in using software programs including Microsoft Office and Oracle applications required. A Human Resources Certification by Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) preferred.
The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
