TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Requires ability to communicate both orally and in writing with management, staff, consultants, developers, and the public.  Must be able to operate general office equipment such as a computer, telephone, and copier machine.  Requires the ability to operate an automobile when conducting site visits or investigations which may involve traversing uneven ground and across ditches.

 TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Majority of work is performed in an office environment but outdoor work is required to inspect work site, conduct investigations, and to meet with the public. May be exposed to various weather conditions, fumes, noise, and odors.  Frequently drives to various locations to periodically inspect work activities, monitor crews in the completion of working duties and respond to problem situations.
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and seven  (7) years of  professional experience in environmental engineering with five (5) of the seven (7) years in a supervisory position; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  License to practice engineering in the State of Tennessee, or demonstrated ability to obtain within six (6) months preferred.  Must possess and maintain a valid driver license as a condition of continued employment.


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
