Judge (Interim Appointment)
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with staff, administrative judge, and the general public.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in an office and courtroom environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a resident and voter in Shelby County for at least two (2) years prior to selection/election. Must be a resident of City of Memphis and registered voter as of the time of selection/election. Must be a graduate from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of the State of Tennessee, and a member in good standing of the State Bar of Tennessee. Experience in the practice of law with two (2) or more years in the State of Tennessee. Must be at least 25 years old at the time of appointment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Municipal court experience
- A Letter of Recommendation from two (2) different lawyers with each having at least 15 years of experience practicing law in Memphis, Tennessee
- Working experience dealing with City Ordinances

PLEASE NOTE: The appointee will serve as the Interim City Court Judge. Municipal Court, Division 1, until the seat is filled by the person duly elected to the position in the August, 2022 election.
The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
