Lead Heavy Equip Operator
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment according to service manuals and preventative maintenance schedule.
2. Operates various other heavy equipment when deemed necessary such as motor grader, track-hoe excavator, and bulldozer (crawler tractor).
3. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires ability to operate assigned equipment involving reaching, grasping, feeling and repetitive motions. Requires reaching and climbing to get into equipment. Requires bending, stooping, and crouching to perform maintenance of equipment. May be required to push and pull materials into position to be picked-up by equipment. Ability to notice on-coming traffic and detect malfunction of equipment or obstructions. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and prepares reports as needed. Must be able to interpret instructions and warnings. Requires lifting (approx. 50lbs) to assist in maintenance of equipment or to change attachments.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outdoors exposed to noise, dust, fumes and changing weather conditions. Maybe required to work in closed areas. Exposed to on-coming traffic. Must be willing to work evening, nights, weekends, holidays and will be subject to mandatory overtime as necessary.
High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of wheel loader equipment required and one (1) year of the three (3) years experience operating other heavy construction equipment of equal or greater complexity, such as back hoe, dozer, grader, motor patrol, compactor, etc. Must have at least (6) months in a lead or supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enable one to perform the essential job functions. Solid waste experience is required. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "A" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver License within six (6) months of accepting this position and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver License until a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver License is obtained. May be required to complete a battery of tests as deemed appropriate by Human Resources to evaluate competencies in operating heavy equipment: front-end loader, and back-hoe loader. Must be able to work nights, evenings, weekends, and overtime as necessary.
