TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.  Must be able to operate personal computer and all basic office equipment. Requires stooping, bending, stretching, pushing cartloads of books up to 40 lbs and carrying and lifting up to 25 lbs of books.
 
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Works in a library environment.  Occasional travel within Shelby County.  Work schedule may include nights and weekends.
 
Master's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited library school and one (1) year of customer service experience in a library or bookstore environment; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college/ university in Business or Public Administration, Liberal Arts, or General or Interdisciplinary Studies and two (2) years of customer service experience in a library or bookstore environment; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience which enables one to perform the essential duties of the job. Ability to work with cataloging foreign language and serials and electronic resources preferred.  Knowledge of SIRSI cataloging module also preferred.


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
