TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate personal computer and all basic office equipment. Requires some stooping, bending, stretching, standing, and traversing throughout the building. Requires the ability to lift and carry books weighing up to 50 lbs.
 
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally performed in a public library. Occasional travel to meetings across the City and out-of-town may be required. Evening, weekend, or holiday work may be required.
 
Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school with course work and emphasis in teen services and five  (5) years of professional librarian experience, with four (4) of the five (5) years in a supervisory or management position; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Experience in a large public agency preferred.


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
