ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor in General Services to provide skilled labor for the construction and maintenance of City owned buildings and facilities. Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment in establishment working from blueprints, line drawings, shop drawings, or oral instructions. Builds, repairs, and installs using carpenter's hand tools and power tools. Drives various types of trucks to and from work site to haul materials and equipment.



OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires the use of equipment such as hand tools, saws, drills, rotary hammers, etc. Requires ability to lift equipment and tools (approximately 90 pounds). Drives trucks to and from various work sites throughout city.



TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside buildings exposed to dust and outside exposed to changing weather conditions and temperatures.


First Class Journeyman Carpenter and 4 years' experience, or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Experience repairing overhead doors and locks preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment.

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the EXECEPTION of “first responders”, must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee House Bill 105, "first responder means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel and dispatchers of law enforcement, fire and emergency medical service departments."
