TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Requires ability to operate assigned equipment such as jack hammer, portable cement mixer, post hole digger, ladder, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems and various hand tools.  Requires ability to pull and lift garbage carts (approx. 50 lbs.) on and off truck and equipment and materials which can weigh up to 50 lbs or up to 100 lbs with assistance.  Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and traverse on uneven ground which may involve kneeling, climbing, bending, crouching, stooping, and reaching.  May be required to operate various type of vehicles depending on assigned division such as a ¾ ton maintenance truck, a tandem dump truck, and/or a 3-ton flatbed dump truck, maintenance truck or an automobile to drive to various locations.  Requires the ability to operate various mobile devices and computer systems/applications if assigned.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed outdoors and in a warehouse. May be exposed to various weather conditions, dust, odors, noise, and traffic.  Travels to various locations to dispose of and pick up equipment and parts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to read and write and understand written and verbal instructions and working experience in conducting minor repairs on vehicles, equipment, and facilities. If assigned to Solid Waste division must possess and maintain a valid driver license with an F endorsement as a condition of continued employment.  If assigned to a division other than Solid Waste must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver License and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment. Knowledge of geographic area of Memphis preferred. Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing equipment preferred.

 

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County withing six (6) months from the date of employment.  Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
