Material Fire Specialist
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all levels of staff members and management, including chief level positions. Requires ability to operate equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, ladder, and commercial sewing machine. Requires the ability to lift and carry various fire materials weighing up to 50 lbs. or 100 lbs. with assistance. Requires traversing on uneven ground, stooping, bending, reaching above head, and climbing a ladder. Requires the ability to operate an automobile to deliver supplies and materials. Requires the ability to operate a computer.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in a warehouse setting that may or may not be climate-controlled. Requires working outside in changing weather conditions while delivering and inventorying equipment. Drives to satellite locations regularly to conduct onsite audits and training workshops. May be exposed to dust, fumes, odors, and noise.
High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year warehouse or delivery operations experience; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver license as a condition of continued employment. Experience with medical and/or household supplies inventory control preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications preferred.
The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
