ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of assigned manager to provide public safety services that will include but not limited to, assistance in the developing of specific neighborhood crime reduction initiatives, aid neighborhood watch programs, and attend community meetings. Serves as the primary liaison for Precinct Commanders, and any other initiatives and/or programs set forth by the Memphis Police Department.  Connects and builds relationships with community partners and organizations. Assists in monitoring, adaptation, and execution of evaluation platform in the community. Keeps abreast of community trends, needs, and gaps. Supports the planning and implementation of community impact strategies.

Interacts and responds to upset, angry, hostile and/or verbally abusive citizens on the telephone and in-person during individual and group contacts. Gauges and monitors public and media attitudes, reactions, concerns, and issues related to department responsiveness. Functions as a liaison and contact person for the department with other law enforcement agencies, community groups, media, and individuals in the community. Assists and responds to phone calls and questions relating to Police programs, issues and public information requests as directed. Coordinates and participates in various community events. Ensures compliance with applicable department policies and procedures, and local, state, and federal laws.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Must have the ability to operate general office equipment, computer, telephone, copier, etc.  Requires some lifting, bending, crouching, and carrying objects such as office supplies. 

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Majority of work is performed in a field environment as well as an office setting.   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSRetired post certified law enforcement persons who are current active Memphis Police Reserve Officers. Must serve under the jurisdiction of the Police Services Division. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
