Police Radio Technician
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires manual dexterity to operate power and hand tools. Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, and to traverse over uneven surfaces which will involve bending, crouching, stooping, crawling, reaching, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders or climbing non-standard ladders to access antenna or equipment on tops of trucks, or roofs of buildings. Requires use of a personal computer. Must be able to lift and carry tools and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. or 100 lbs. with assistance. Requires the ability to operate an automobile.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a shop environment. Frequent outdoor work is required. Requires travel across the City, surrounding county/counties to perform work at fire houses, radio sites, equipment shelters, offices, roofs of buildings, and equipment penthouses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in the land mobile two-way radio communications field, including maintenance of land mobile RF transmitting and receiving equipment. Must have working experience in proper use of land mobile radio test equipment and procedures. Must have experience working with Part 90 FCC rules and regulations. Must have an FCC General Radiotelephone Operators License (GROL) or must obtain one within six (6) months of employment as a condition of continued employment. Requires basic computer skills. Advanced computer skills preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.
