ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the direction of the Vehicle Storage Supervisor to coordinate and supervise the disposition of impounded properties by public auction according to all applicable laws and established procedures and acts as lead supervisor over vehicle storage operations: coordinates and supervises the preparation of vehicles/properties and required documentation for auction including performing title traces using specialized software, sending certified notifications to owners and other parties as required, verifying VIN numbers, determining what property can be sold such as DUI or drug seized vehicles, categorizing property/vehicle to be sold, etc; oversees auctions and documentation of sales according to applicable laws and established procedures including extensive contact with the general public; acts as lead supervisor over daily operations of City Vehicle Storage facilities including training and supervising and assisting personnel in receiving, cataloging, storage, and release of impounded property; identifies vehicles with altered, removed, or destroyed vehicle identification numbers using specialized, confidential techniques; and maintains and stores records of all facility transactions, prepares tri-weekly deposits including verifying monies received including auction proceeds and vehicle release fees collected, performs periodic inventories of property on impound lot, and testifies in court regarding transactions when needed.  Supervises overall operations of Vehicle Storage facilities in absence of Supervisor.           
 
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  1.  Assist/Train other agencies in the confidential methods of identifying vehicles and components according to National Insurance Crime Bureau standards.
  2. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.  Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone.  Requires the ability to lift and carry objects such as tools and vehicle components weighing up to 30 lbs. and maneuver including traversing uneven ground, stooping, bending, reaching above head, and climbing under vehicles to visually inspect property.  Ability to operate equipment such as a forklift or wrecker to transport vehicles, etc. 
 
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in both an office environment and outside on a vehicle lot environment including exposure to dust, fumes, odors, all types of weather conditions for long periods of time during auctions, and potentially hazardous chemicals and synthetic residues.
 
High School graduate or equivalent and six (6) years experience in vehicle storage or repair with four (4) of the six (6) years in a supervisory position; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Must have a valid driver's license.  Must be willing to work various shifts and rotate days off.  Specific experience working on an impound lot and identifying/cataloging vehicles strongly preferred.


The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
