TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing to receive instructions and give feedback.  Requires traversing on uneven ground lifting and carrying garbage, debris, tree limbs, appliances, and garbage carts and dump into truck.  Requires bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (including above head), standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting 50 lbs. or up to 100 lbs. with assistance.   Requires the ability to climb in and out of cab of trucks.  Requires the ability to operate assigned equipment such as a smart phone or other hand held communication devices.  Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
 
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Majority of work is performed outdoors in sometimes adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to odors, noise, dust, pollen, fumes and traffic. 
 
Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and have working experience as a crewperson or truck driver.   Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver's License and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment.  May be required to complete a battery of tests as deemed appropriate by Human Resources to evaluate competencies in operating related equipment. 

Salary:

$26,959.14  entry

$30,225.26  60 days

 $41,576.86  5mos


The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
