Surveyor Manager
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with various agencies, management, and staff at all levels of the organization. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a computer. Requires traversing on uneven land, across ditches, river swamp land, and wooded areas. Requires the ability to read engineering drawings and digital hand-held instruments. Requires ability to operate automobile to make inspections throughout the City.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside the office and throughout the City in assigned geographical area. Work involves contact with the public at times under stressful conditions. May be required to work in extreme temperatures and changing weather conditions. May be exposed to traffic, insects, weeds, and poisonous plants. Travels frequently to various properties across the City for visual inspection of property.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or closely related field and six (6) years' experience in land surveying with at least four (4) years of the six (6) in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver license as a condition of continued employment. State of Tennessee Professional Land Surveyor license preferred.
The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
