Cart Central Foreman
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direct supervision of assigned supervisor or manager. Monitors, trains, and assists assigned personnel. Coordinates citywide cart maintenance, repair, delivery, and replacement. Coordinates deployment and special cart delivery/removal projects. Monitors, calibrates, and repairs cart flippers/tippers. Assists the supervisor in evaluating work performance of assigned crews, provides work direction for assigned crews, and provides on-site supervision at job sites. Drives a pickup truck, garbage packer, or other solid waste vehicle to conduct on-site inspections, collect solid waste, or perform other job functions. Trains and instructs assigned personnel on work procedures and proper use of equipment. Performs light maintenance of vehicles and equipment to include checking and adding fluids and fuels. Submits work orders and supply requests. Facilitates grievances, entrusted with confidential or delicate information such as customer utility data and employee personal information, and prepares reports for on-the-job injuries and property damage. Transports equipment and personnel to designated areas. Maintains record of daily activities. Uses electronic devices (including computers, phones, tablets, and radios) to communicate with supervisor and other workers, as well as reporting/recording work status, service delivery, closing and the opening service requests in systems such as Oracle and GIS. Assists subordinates in handling, emptying, transferring, or disposing of solid waste or recyclables.
OTHER FUNCTIONS: Performs additional functions (essential and otherwise) which are assigned.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Requires ability to operate assigned equipment and to engage and disengage attachments. Requires ability to climb onto equipment. Must be able to handle various hand tools. Requires bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting (minimum 50 lbs.). Requires the ability to operate an automobile.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outdoors exposed to odors, dust, inclement weather, and traffic. May travel on occasion across the city to perform daily work assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma and two (2) years experience in solid waste or maintenance, or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have a valid Class "B" Commercial driver's license as a condition of continued employment.
The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
