Commercial Building Inspector
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work involves contact with the public at times under stressful conditions. May be exposed to animals (dogs and cats), rodents, insects and deteriorating structures when conducting inspections. May be exposed to various weather conditions, fumes, odors, dust, and noise.
High school graduate or equivalent with seven (7) years' experience in the building inspection/building construction industry. Must be certified by the state of Tennessee as a Building Code Inspector or obtain such certification before the end of twelve (12) months of employment as a condition of continued employment, or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Personal computer experience preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment.
The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
