TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing with staff, management, and the general public. Must be able to operate a computer, general office equipment, and mobile handheld radio for communication in the field. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and assigned equipment. Requires traversing uneven ground, lifting, and carrying objects such as tools and power equipment weighing up to 50 lbs., as well as the handling of manhole covers and inlet grates (approximately 150 lbs.) with assistance. Requires bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (including above head), standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Requires the ability to climb in and out of manholes, catch basins, culverts, and other confined related structures.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an outdoor environment and often exposed to various weather conditions, odors, dust, and traffic. Frequently drives to various locations to inspect and monitor crews.
High school diploma/equivalent and five (5) years' experience in construction/sewer/drain repair or street maintenance, including a minimum of two (2) years in a lead capacity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have a valid Class "B" Commercial driver's license as a condition of continued employment. Must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment.

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of  Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
