Waste Water Treatment Trainee (Environmental Stiles)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent certification or training in wastewater operation; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry or related field preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver license as a condition of continued employment. Must successfully complete job related skills testing as designated by Human Resources such as problem solving skills, mathematics/computation ability and knowledge of chemistry, bacteriology and wastewater treatment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The duration of employment for applicants selected for the Wastewater Treatment Trainee Program is 36 months as a Trainee. During this time, Trainees will receive training and be responsible for satisfactorily progressing through the program ultimately resulting in certification as a State of Tennessee Class IV Wastewater Operator. Also during this time, Trainees will have the opportunity to apply and compete for available City Wastewater Treatment Operator positions.
The City Charter requires that City Employees, with the exception of "first responders", must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from their date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire. As defined by Tennessee Senate Bill No. 29, "first responder" means paid, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.
