Right of Way Maintenance Foreman (2 openings)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of a field supervisor to assign and supervise several crews engaged in public and city right-of-way maintenance activities. Oversees and aids in crew duties of maintaining vegetation management, cutting grass/tress, picking up litter, trimming shrubs, edging streets/sidewalks, and herbicide applications. Inspects daily activities and instructs assigned crew on proper use, operation, and maintenance of various vehicles and equipment. Assists the supervisor in evaluating assigned crew’s work performance, provides work direction for assigned crew, and serves as on-site supervisor on job sites. Maintains record of daily activities. Updates GIS tickets of assigned jobs, including typing detailed notes, and closing tickets as required. Creates and prepares reports using various methods and computer applications. Travels to various facilities to conduct on-site inspections. Assists subordinates with the performance of tasks to achieve completion, when necessary. Collaborates with other departments to create various beautification and blight mitigation efforts for the City.
OTHER FUNCTIONS: Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing with staff, management, and the general public. Must be able to operate a computer, general office equipment, and mobile handheld radio for communication in the field. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and assigned equipment. Requires the ability to use maps to locate and inspect work sites. Requires bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting (approx. 50 lbs.).
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an outdoor environment and often exposed to various weather conditions, odors, dust, and traffic. Frequently drives to various locations to inspect and monitor crews. Must be available to work weekends and evening/night shifts
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/equivalent and four (4) years' experience in right-of-way/grounds maintenance, including a minimum of one (1) year in a lead capacity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must have a valid Class "B" Commercial driver's license as a condition of continued employment. Must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment. Must successfully complete job-related skills testing as designated by Human Resources. Experience using various computer applications preferred.
