TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires ability to traverse uneven surfaces and across ditches, wooded areas, and river swamp lands. Requires bending, climbing, pulling, crouching, reaching and lifting items such as manhole covers 50 lbs. or up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Requires ability to operate assigned equipment and hand tools such as portable cement mixer, jack hammer, hatchet, ax, asphalt lute, shovel and pneumatic and hydraulic tools such as pavement breaker and chain/pavement saw. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions, fumes and odors. May be exposed to traffic, insects, weeds, and poisonous plants. May be exposed to emulsifiers, bacteria, insecticides, sewer solvents, etc. May drive trucks to and from various work sites throughout the City.
Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and three (3) months experience in construction and maintenance. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver's License if assigned to General Services Park Operations Service Center and comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment.
